Pertussis (Tdap) booster vaccination

There has been an increase in the number of cases of whooping cough in the Auckland region.  The Tdap booster vaccine is recommended for people living with or caring for newborns e.g. new parents and grandparents andfor pregnant women* from 20 weeks gestation.

It is important that babies receive their regular immunisations on time (6 weeks, 3 and 5 months) and older children receive the Tdap booster at 4 and 11 years.  These are funded for those <16 years.

NOTE: Immunity decreases over time, so boosters are indicated even in those who have had the disease.

* Funded within CMDHB for pregnant woman from 20 weeks gestation until 2 weeks postpartum
